CULTURAL FUN FOR THIS JAVA VACATION

Culture in De Schoolyard is a 3-week Cultural Camp providing a fun and educational cultural learning opportunity for children ages 9-17. The core focus of the camp this year is on imparting cultural traditions such as the Tobago Wedding, Tobago Jig and Speech Band. This will be within an environment of play, where participants will be immersed in traditional games such as: Congotay, Hopscotch, Brown Girl in the Ring and In a fine Castle. The programme will culminate with a mini production, where participants will showcase the skills learnt during the camp. On the final day students will benefit from a field trip to the Knollys Tunnel in Tabaquite as well as the Piparo Mud Volcano, to gain firsthand insights into some of the built and natural heritage sites.
The Camp will:
- Expose of our youth to the techniques associated with traditional cultural expressions.
- Foster an awareness of local artistic traditions among young citizens.
- Engage our youth in productive activities by providing a platform for creative expressions.
The Camp is structured around 3 broad modules:
- Cultural Traditions
- Technology in Culture
- Soft Skills Development
At the end of the camp, participants will participate in a mini production, showcasing the works done over the duration. Read details of the content that will be covered in the “What You Will Learn” section below.
The Cultural Camp is open to students Ages 9-17, who are on vacation from School and takes place from August 7th- 25th 2023!
Days:Â The programme runs every business day
Time: 9AM- 2PM
Certification:Â A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to all participants completing the camp. To qualify for a certificate of participation, participants must attend at least 95% of the sessions, must be punctual and must participate in the Final Showing!

Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Only 25 participants will be accepted!
